Welcome to the PREPARED newsletter - November 2024
In times of crisis, accelerated research saves lives, but it is not always done ethically. The EU funded PREPARED project is designing a values-based framework to expedite research in times of global crisis without sacrificing ethics and integrity. Dear reader, A lot has happened since you last heard from us – all very exciting. We released the first draft of the PREPARED Code of Conduct, our comments were included in the new Declaration of Helsinki, we published new papers, including a special issue with 12 open access articles, and much more! We have definitely been busy. We think it’s all interesting, but if you’re pressed for time, our ‘quick links’ allow you to skip to what interests you the most.

PREPARED Code – public consultation
How can research be conducted ethically during pandemics? We would like to invite you to take part in a public consultation on the PREPARED Code – A Global Code of Conduct for Research during Pandemics. Help us get it right! Read the Code and submit your comments by 15 November here.
Survey on research in fragile settings
Have you had experience of conducting research in a fragile setting? If so, we would like to invite you to participate in an anonymous online survey to hear about your experiences, particularly about the challenges that you encountered.
The types of fragile settings we refer to include environments such as conflict or post-conflict zones, regions which recently experienced natural disasters; refugee camps under serious resource constraints; or high-crime settings such as high-crime informal settlements. We are not referring to pandemic settings. You can access the survey and full participant information here or via the QR code. The survey will be open until midnight (UK time) on 31 January 2025.
