Transforming Rehabilitation: Personalised Care for a Better Quality of Life
Welcome to the first PREPARE project newsletter, a guide to our latest work and news.
PREPARE is an EU Horizon Europe project (No. 101080288) with aims to improve the lives of people with chronic noncommunicable diseases by developing tools that will enable patients and their healthcare providers to select optimal therapy strategies. PREPARE will pave the way for personalised and holistic rehabilitation by combining real-world datasets in a unified manner.
We set ourselves apart by utilising cutting edge research in the clinical, socio-behavioural and public health domains and integrating sociodemographic, living conditions and behavioural information. Through the application of statistical and AI learning methods, our team of experts will showcase the power of its state-of-the-art through pilot cases in nine prominent disorders. PREPARE’s data-driven tools will revolutionise the field of rehabilitation, contributing to better shared decision making and preparation for the patient’s future.

HEALTHCARE AND AIRegulatory Perspective of Prediction Models
| |
AI-driven predictive models hold enormous potential for the world of rehabilitation. They can enable better patient care, empower doctors to make better-informed decision, and lead to improved health outcomes. However, like all powerful tools, they need to be used responsibly. By ensuring that these predictive models adhere to the relevant legal framework, we can harness the benefits of the technology while minimising its risks. In this blog, project partner NAALA discusses the ever changing landscape of AI and medicine, including standards on cutting-edge software, AI tools and medical devices.

ETHICS
Ethical, Legal, and Social Considerations for the PREPARE Project
| |
The PREPARE project is on a mission to revolutionise rehabilitation care for patients dealing with chronic non-communicable diseases. It will develop innovative and personalised tools to support healthcare professionals and patients in deciding treatment options. While this project holds the promise of transforming healthcare, it’s important to consider the ethical, legal, and social implications that come with such innovation. In this blog post, project partner Trilateral Research breaks down these issues and explains why they matter.

PERSON-CENTRED PREDICTION
Baseball, Denver, Consultation Offices, and Physiotherapy…My Search for Evidence-based Practice
| |
KomPas is a tool that makes person-centred predictions regarding the expected therapy course for people with Intermittent Claudication. In this blog, project partner Radboudumc discusses the story behind the idea of the people-like-me prediction tool, KomPas. Through the PREPARE platform we are hoping to share our people-like-me approach with other clinical partners so that other healthcare professionals can make use of this simple yet powerful way to stimulate evidence-based practice. This is a story about baseball, Denver, the consultation office and evidence-based physiotherapy.

END USER PERSPECTIVE Transforming Rehabilitation: Personalised Care for Better Quality of Life with PREPARE
| |
In a world where chronic non-communicable diseases affect millions of people, rehabilitation is key to improving the quality of life of those living with these conditions. The PREPARE project aims to make a significant impact by developing tools that empower both patients and healthcare providers to choose the most effective treatment strategies. This ground-breaking initiative is a beacon of hope for those navigating the complexities of chronic disease, offering the promise of personalised and holistic care. In this blog post, project partner Eurospine takes a look at PREPARE from an end-user perspective and explore how it is poised to transform rehabilitation.

LECTURE
PREPARE partner JSI was invited by Alliance of Slovenian patient organisations to lecture at an event on Digital Health Literacy with a focus on data and digital competencies. Health literacy is the ability to understand, use and evaluate health information in order to make informed decisions about personal health. JSI held lectures on two important topics in the PREPARE project: digital health and the use of new technologies and data visualisation as an important part of health literacy.

PREPARE partner Radboudemc was invited by the initiative Group Physical Therapy to present a lecture about data interoperability. Some main points from the lecture: the future of physical therapy research lies in making datasets interoperable to help therapists make better decisions on the best available data; PREPARE is a state-of-the-art project aiming to democratise physical therapy data and might lead the way for AI-based decision modelling.
